Dionysius

Hi my name is Dionysius and I am also called Bacchus. I am the god of wine, festivals and parties. Some of the symbols that are most commonly used to represent me are grapes, wine and ambrosia. One of the stories I am most known for is the story of my birth. The story of my birth is that Zeus, my father raped my mother and when she was about to give birth to me, one of the thunderbolts of Zeus killed her. But someone managed to rescue me. Although I have no special powers, I’m immortal.

Perseus And Medusa

Hi, my name is Perseus, im a Greek legend, im Hero, the son of Zeus and Dannaë, daughter of Acrisius, king of Argos. An oracle foretold my mon that a son of Dannaë would cause the death of Acrisius, I was abandoned in the Mortal world as a Mortal in the island of Seriphus, where I was protected by the king of the island under promise that he would slay the Gorgon Medusa and bring her head to him. In this he was aided by Hermes and Athena, who protected him from danger. After reaching the dwelling of Medusa near Tartessus, I cut off her head with the sickle furnished by Hermes, and on my return I liberated the beautiful Andromeda from a sea monster. Later I rescued my mother from Polydectes by turning the latter into stone. Shortly after I became king of Tiryns, and in the course of time founded the cities of Mycenæ and Midea.

Perseus and Medusa's Head

Hi I am Pandora

Zeus made me because he was mad at Prometheus who had given the mortals special gifts. So he gave them one more gift and that was me, the first mortal woman. Each god gave me something to make me perfect. Mercury gave me persuasion, Venus gave me beauty, Apollo gave me music, Hephaestus voice...etc.

Zeus gave me to Epimetheus my husband, he accpeted me even though Prometheus his brother had said to him "don't accept anything form Zeus". My beauty convinced him.

One day Epimetheus gave me a box that I was forbidden to open. I was so curious that I didn't support not not knowing what was inside the box so I open it. When I open the box all evil, hate, anger and jealousy flew out into the world. When I saw in the bottom of the box, there was still one thing inside and that was hope.

I'll be always remembered as the mortal/goddess who let out all the bad things into the world. Also I'll be known as the "Mother of troubles".

Pandora means, "The one who gives all gifts".

Bellerophon

Hi, my name is Bellerophon and I am one of the most important mortal heroes of Greek Mythology. I am son of Eurynome and Poseidon. My mother is the wife of Glaucus, who raised me as his own child.

Both of my fathers were very good horse riders, so I became an excellent one, and also an incredible archer. One day, they decided to give me a horse that would make me more powerful in battle, so they gave me Pegasus, a horse that can fly. I tried to ride him lots of times but it seemed imposible. After many failures Poseidon told me I should pray for Athena for help. After a night praying on her altar she gave me a golden bridle, which helped me a lot. Finally I was able to ride the horse.

I became a very good and powerful fighter so King Pittheus gave me his daughter Aetrha in marriage. It was all perfect but they remembered I had once killed a man that apparently was my own brother. For some reason they thought this was very bad so I wouldn't be able to marry her.

I went to visit King Proetus to be purified and while I was there his wife Stheneboea tried to seduce me. I controlled myself but she was angry at me and told his husband that I was the one that tried to seduce her. The King was so mad at me that he wanted to kill me, but that wouldn't have been good for him, so he went to King Iobates.

King Iobates also wanted to kill me so he send me to do many things to be purified. First he send me to kill the terrible Chimera, and I returned victorious. Then, the send me to conqueer the Solymi tribe and I was also victorious. He was starting to get mad so he made me fight the Amazons. When I came back he was so mad at me that he attacked me with all of his army and I killed them all, until the last man.

King Iobates saw that I was blessed by the gods so he gave me part of his land and his daughter Philonoe, who was the sister of Stheneboea, who ended up suiciding.

I had children and one day I went to visit the gods. Zeus was so mad at me that he pulled Pegasus and made me fall. I was left alone wandering all around the place until I died.

Orpheus and Eurydice
I was the greatest musician and poet of Greek myth, my songs could charm wild beasts and coax even ricks and trees into movement. I was one of the Argonauts, and when the Argo had to pass the island of the Sirens it was my music which prevented the crew from being lured to destruction.

When I was young I fall in love with a kid called Eurydice, our love was so deep that we were practically inseparable. We thought allot of times that we can’t live without the other. Eurydice was bitten by a serpent, the poison of the serpent killed her and she descended to Hades immediately. I was so sad about the loss of my love that i start to composed music to express the terrible emptiness. I went down to the underworld to bring Eurydice back. But have to meet one condition it was that i must not look back as I was conducting Eurydice to the surface.

At Youra my home is a cave and when I find out that Odysseus and his men were hiding inside it I sealed it with a huge rock….I was hungry so I ate some of Odysseus men. Also I had a talk with Odysseus, I asked for his name and he told me that was “None”.The evil Odysseus was planning to escape so they got me drunk and they put a sharp pole that they made into my eye and made me blind, I confused and suffering a lot of pain removed the entrance stone and I tried to catch the escaping men but Odysseus had foreseen this so they all tied themselves under a sheep, so I only felt the animals as they left the cave. I tried to take revenge but when I told to the other Cyclops that None tried to kill me they didn’t believed….so I threw huge rocks into the sea hopping that I will hit Odysseus’ ship. Hi, My Name is Phaeton

I am not a god, but I am a son of one. My father is Helios the god of the sun and my mother is Clymene. She is not a god either, we are mortals.

I lived my whole life with my mother which is why I met my father when I was older and I discovered my dad was a god. When I discovered this, I asked him if I could go visit him to ask him for a favor and he said yes immediately.

When I got to my father's house and asked him if I could ride his chariot, he told me I could but that I had to be careful with the horses because they were very strong. I was so excited that I ignored that warning and the horses went out of control when I stepped in the chariot! I was destroying everything, and when I got near the Earth, Zeus threw a lightning bolt to stop me and it killed me when it touched me.

Hades the god of the Underworld

My name is Hades, the lord of the dead and ruler of the nether world. I am the son of Cronus and Rhea. I had three brothers, and my father Cronus divided the world among each other, I was given the underworld, while my brothers Zeus and Poseidon took the upper world and the sea respectively. For a while Hades ruled the underworld together with Persephone, whom he had kidnap from the upper world, but Zeus ordered him to release Persephone back into the care of her mother Demeter.
I sit on a throne made of ebony, and I carry a scepter. I also have a helmet, it was a present by the Cyclopes, which can make me invisible. I rule the dead, assisted by various (demonic) helpers, such as Thanatos (Hypnos, sleep), the ferryman Charon, and the hound Cerberus (three- headed watchdog). My strength is to reach with the wealth of earth, especially precious metals. My weakness is Persephone. My symbol is scepter.

Sisyphus

My Roman and my Greek names are both Sisyphus; I am the son of the king Aeolus of Thessaly and Enarete. I am also the first king that Corinth had. I have 1 son called Glaucus. I am the god of navigation and commerce. My only ability is my imperative strength and my capability to perseverate. The story that I am most famous for is the following. I don’t really know why but Persephone thinks that I am ambitious and selfish. He didn’t like me even a little. The issue was that before I died I told my wife that when I die she was not to offer the usual sacrifice. When I died, in the underworld, I persuaded Persephone, the queen of the underworld that my wife was betraying me and she allowed me to go to the upper world to tell my wife to perform her duty. I tricked them and later I refused to go back to the underworld. In consequence Hermes carried me back to the underworld and as a punishment the gods condemned me to carry a giant rock up trough a hill but when I arrived to the top it rolled down the hill again, making this job an eternal task. Thank you.

Hi… My name is Europa

I am a mortal women who long time ago Zeus fell in love. The story says that Zeus transform into a white bull and take me to the island of Crete. In this Island Zeus got me pregnant with three sons. The first one was Talos, a magical man made of bronze, who served like a guard in Crete. The second was Lealaps, a dog who was really good at hunting. And the last present Zeus gave me was a javelin that always hit its target. But I am important because I gave the name of Europe to the continent. I know that you are asking what the role of the white bull is. At the end of the story this beautiful white bull became the constellation of Taurus.

Icarus & Daedalus

Hi, my name is Icarus and i'm best known for the kid who died for not paying attention to my father Daedalus. My father and I were slaves in the castle of the king of Knossos, located in Crete. He once did a laberynth for the king in which we were trapped, so he was a great inventor and build a par of wings made of string and wax because he was a great inventor.
.
Once the wings were done he told me to try them but never to fly very high because the sun could melt the wings. When I was high flying I totally forgot my father's advise because of my excietement, so the sun melted my wings and I fell to the sea and died drowned.
.
This is me flying towards the sun minutes before I fell to the ocean.

Hi, My Name is Thisbe ---Pyramus & Thisbe---

My life story is like the one of Romeo and Juliet, but mine is much more interesting!
Well, everyone knows me because I was the most beautiful maiden in all Babylonia. I lived in a very small house and my room was connected with Pyramus’s. He was the most awesome man I ever met.

I fell in love with him but my parents didn’t want me to be with him, I was furious! I wasn’t allowed to see or talk to him… so one day we found a small hole in the wall that separated us. That hole allowed him to whisper me love words everyday. I was so in love with him, he was the boy of my dreams.

One day Pyramus asked me to run away with him; he wanted to marry me and I agreed. We were supposed to meet outside the city in the middle of the night, near Ninu’s grave. I was so excited that I arrived first. It was dark and cold, then I saw a lion I was so scared that I run until I reached a cave, but when I was running my veil fell down and I couldn’t get back to take it. When the lion saw it, he started to play with it, then the lion left my veil covered with blood from his last prey on the floor.

I was so afraid that I got to the darkest point of the cave and stood there for about 50 minutes. Then I heard a scream so I ran out to see what had happened, it was Pyramus. He was lying on the floor, screaming. I run to where he was to see what was happening, when I reached where he was I saw that he was dying; he had pierced himself with his sword. While he was dying he told me that he saw my veil and thought I was killed by the lion. I loved him like I never loved anyone so I decided to kill myself and that way we would die together. But, I couldn’t do it; I became insane and started to run away, I ran, ran and ran far away form Babylon. Now I am living in the forest, away from everything.

I don’t know anything about Babylonia, my family, etc. I only know that everyone knows my story because where Pyramus died grew a Mulberry bush, and since his death the berries changed from its original color, white, to red.

Aphrodite! God Of LoVe!!!!

My name is Aphrodite and I’m the Goddess of Love, beauty and fertility. I’m also called Venus. My brothers were Zeus and Dione. Many Gods and mortals loved me and I loved them too. The one that I loved the most was called Adonis. Some of my sons are Eros, Anteros, Hymenaios, and Aeneas. I also like to protect sailors. My festival is the Aphrodisiac which was celebrated in some parts of Greece and especially in Athens and Corinth. I always wore my magic girdle and no one can resist me. I loved gaiety and glamour and I was not so pleased when I married sooty, hard-working Hephaestus. Although many people remember me as a deity of petty desires I was very powerful and unique and my influence was very important in many areas of life. I liked to be very generous when my followers need me for my powers. I helped Meilanion gain Atalanta. I also used my powers to destroy people who disrupt workings of love and sexuality.

Hi! My name is Pan,

Or also they call me Faunus. I am the fertility god. I protect fields, woods, pastures and other landscapes. Also I’m the god of hunting, rustic music, shepherds and flocks. As you can see I love NATURE. I was born in a estrange way; I am half goat (My ears, feet and horns) and half human (the rest of my body). I wandered the hills and mountains of Arkadia especially over the golden halls of Mount Olympus.

I have an excellent music ability; I play pipes and the Syrinx. My music and me cause fear and inspire “panic” especially in lonely places. I love noise and high-pitched songs. Also I lead the nymphs in dances. As you can see my hobby is MUSIC!

There is a story I’m most famous for: One day I was hunting
near Nonacris when I saw a beautiful nymph called Syrinx. But I was so disappointed because she proclaimed herself as a virgin for life and she run away when Syrinx saw me. When she reached the Ladon River, she realized that it was very difficult to pass on her own so she began to pray to be transformed into a reed. Her prayer was granted. So then I made the pipes from the reed and I name them Syrinx in honor of my lost love.

Theseus

Hi, I was son of Aethra, daughter of the king of Troezene and my father is undefined, some say I am son of Aegeus, king of Athens and others say I am son of Poseidon.

When I was 16 years old, he lifted a heavy rock in which Aegeus had placed two sandals and a sword; he had told Aethra that when I was able to lift the rock, I could go to meet him at Athens. On my way to Athens, I killed a lot of ferocious savages, including Epidaurus, who had a giant club to kill people, and Procrustes, who had a bed to measure his victims, if they where shorter than the bed, he stretched them, if they where longer, he cutted their feet off.

When I reached Athens, my father’s new wife, a witch called Medea, tried to kill me, but my father stopped her and she ran away. By this time, Athens was in a lot of pain because every 9 years, Athens had to send 7 boys and 7 girls to feed the Minotaur, so I went to fight the Minotaur with the other children and defeated him, when I came home, my father had died.

After all this, I ruled Athens, invaded the amazons, who then counterattacked and married Helen, daughter of Zeus. After a long time I lost the faith of my people and I was forced to retire to the court of Lycomedes who received my kindly, but after a long time killed me.

Midas

Hi, I am Midas. I am the king of pessinus, a region near Turkey. My parents are Gordias and Cybele. People knows me because of my love for the pleasures of life.
I will tell you one of the most important stories of my life. One day, Dionysus , the god of the life force, gave me the Golden Touch. Dionysus was followed by a group of Satyrs. The satyrs were half human, half goat individuals with a lust for wine and sexual pleasures. The leader of the satyrs was Silenus. One day, Silenus became intoxicated and pass through my rose garden. The pleasants found Silenus and they brought him before their king. They were very lucky and I recognized Silenus and I treated him very good during 5 days and 4 nights. During this days, Silenus entertain me with all his tales.
When Dyonisus came back to me, he was pretty glad to be with Silenus, his father. When Dyonisus saw Silenus, he decided to reward me for the hospitality with Silenus and he granted me one wish.
My dream, was that everything that I touch became gold. When I said him, he said me that it could be very dangerous, but I was very interested of being surronded by gold so I didnt listen to Dyonisus comments. Dyonisus game me the gift. I was very exited and I turn all I can into gold. My attitude also changes, and more when I cant eat because also my wine and my food was turn into gold when I touch them.
One day, I practicaly killed my daughter when I touch she. She becames gold. When I had this incident I recognized the depth of my mistake. I get very desperate and I decide to call Dyonisus and ask him for help. He said me that he will only wash my wish if I bathe in the headwaters of the Poctolus river. Inmediately, I went to the river and as soon as I touch the water, the river carried away the golden touch. This gold was carried downstream to Lydia. Lydia was one of the richest kingdom in the ancient World.
Alter the death of my daughter I hated wealth and splendor and I became a wordshiper of Pan, the god of Woodlands.

This myth explains why the Poctolus River is rich with gold and why Lydia cames to be one the richest kingdoms.

Atalanta

Hi! My name is Atalanta,
I'm the godess of speed and the female athlete in Greek Mythology. My father is Isasus. I really like to participate in the male activity Calydonian Boar Hunt. I can run faster than anyone or anything in the whole world. When I was born, my father abandoned me because he wanted a son, but later I became a great heroine. Really, I didn't wanted to marry anyone but my father, after he claimed me as his daughter wanted me to marry someone so I said that I would marry anyone who could win in a race with me (I knew I was going to win because I'm the fastest runner in the world). One day, Melanion fell in love with me and wanted to marry me, but he knew I was going to win the race so he talked to Aphrodite, the love goddess and she provided Melanion three golden apples to distract me in the race. During the race, I found the golden apples. They were magical, so I couldn't resist and I had to stop to eat one whenever I saw one on the road. Because I was stopping so much to eat apples, Melanion won the race and I had to marry him. Once married to Melanion I couldn't containt my inhibitions any more so one day I allowed Melanion to seduce me in the temple of Zeus. When Zeus caught us he was sooo angry that he turned both of us into lions and lions can't mate with each other. A long time after, I gave birth to a son called Parthenopaeus but anyone really knows who his father is.

Hi my name is Poseidon

Hello my name is Poseidon, but some call me Neptune. I’m the god of the sea, horses, and marine creatures; I am a very powerful god. I’m the son of Cronus and Gaea. Among my many powers lie: control of marine creatures and the ability to control tides and waves. Some of the symbols with which mortals represent me are a trident, my weapon of choice, a seahorse which I use as my messenger, and all horses which answer to me. The story I’m most famous for is the Odyssey in which a foolish mortal, Odysseus was stupid enough to piss me off. For this I left him wandering the seas for 20 years meeting many creatures, among them one of my many sons Polyphemus who he blinded, but I don’t care, I have plenty.

Hi! My name is Zeus!

You might know me as the powerful ruler of the sky, controller of rain and cloud, and master of lightning. I overthrew my father, Cronus, and took over everything, giving the sea to my brother Poseidon and the underworld to my brother Hades.

I have sort of a bad reputation as a womanizer. I mean, I love my wife, Hera, but there are just so many beautiful women on earth, that I can’t help being a little bit unfaithful from time to time.

I’m really a nice guy, but please, don’t make me angry unless you want to see a heck of a storm. I have a bit of a short temper, and I really hate to be tricked. No one is more powerful than me…. except maybe Fate. But until she catches up to me, I’ll keep living the life of the most famous Greek God ever to live on Mount Olympus!

This is me, last year after Hera tricked me and stole Io away!

  • Greeks did the greatest advance in astronomy at their time and recorded data in museums and libraries.

  • Greeks improved mathematics with many things like calculus, the number theory and with geography and the formal proof.

-The two main reason of why city-state was created: geography and the refusal of kingship.

The people who had power didn’t want a king because they want to make they make their own city.

Art In Ancient Greece

Art In Ancient Greece

Has a great influence in today’s art, mostly in sculptural and architectural features.

Sculpture was based mainly on beautiful bodies.

They made wonderful and fully painted pottery only for daily usage.

Had the most advanced architecture in their times.

With Hellenistic sculpture they made patterns about different things.
